In November our hospital manager Matt was leaving late at night and found an abandoned ten month old puppy tied up to the hospital. With a note that said "Hi, my name is Layla. My owner is no longer able to provide for me, so here I am. Please bathe and feed me. Thank you from a very apologetic owner"
Layla was badly underweight, and dehydrated. Her fur was patchy and matted up, and she had a nasty eye infection with ulcerations in both eyes. It was obvious she hadn't been very well cared for and was now left all alone on a very cold night.
Matt immediately brought her into the clinic, fed her and got her warmed up. Early the next morning our wonderful and caring team went right to work on her. We are so glad Matt happened to be at work late, or Layla probably wouldn't have made it through the night.
One of our veterinarians, Dr. Schnayer, has since adopted her. Layla is now back to a normal weight, her eyes were treated and her eyesight is just fine. She is groomed, pampered, well-loved and is an amazingly happy and sweet little dog! (The before and after pictures are below.)
We understand how difficult and overwhelming caring for a pet can be, but there are so many options other than abandonment. Please know you can always call our hospital to learn what options are available to you before considering a drastic decision like this.
We are so proud of our all of our doctors and staff for making sure Layla had a second chance on a wonderful new life!
